Vanessa - No More Multiple Math Tutors
Grade 8, Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada
Challenge
Vanessa, Grade 8, was getting a C minus 54% in math and had TWO math tutors for multiple years prior to coming to me.
Her parents had spent several thousands of dollars the past few years and both tutors were unable to bring up her math grades.
As time went by, they saw little to no improvement and Vanessa‘s math grades continued to slip helplessly.
In her Grade 8 year, she was among the lowest 3 in her math class. Her parents were getting worried and exasperated for solutions. Their time, energy and financial investment they’ve made yield little to no results.
They also felt that Vanessa was running out of time, if they weren’t able to get a handle of the situation.
When Vanessa first came to me during my initial evaluation, I found that Vanessa’s math concepts were severely convoluted, like a tangled up pretzel.
Simple concepts like conversion of fractions into decimals and percentages, were haphazardly done without cognizance or a systematic approach.
When it came to Areas, Perimeters, Surface Areas and Volumes, she completely froze. She sat and stared blankly at the page. She didn’t know where to begin or even how to approach those math problems.
Rescue & Repair Solution
For the first few weeks, I had to put her “school” work on hold. I felt it was too overwhelming and stressful for her to deal with so many inputs..
My first priority was to restore her chiseled self-confidence and then work towards rebuilding her math foundation.
When she had a stronger grasp of math concepts through my Simplicity Counts™ Math Program, I began switching our focus to gradually integrate her back into her current school math.
We continued filling in missing math-gaps while integrating classroom work simultaneously in a “2-in-1” process, until most of her math foundation and skills were ROCK SOLID and in place.
Life-Changing Math Results
Within 2 months of working with me, Vanessa got her very first 100% in her math test. It was the very first time she achieved 100% in her life for math! She then achieved ANOTHER 100% on her next test, and her teacher could not believe it!
We continued to fortify her math concepts, while working on problem-solving and recognizing strategies. She began gaining more confidence and was getting a better handle with math.
Soon, she was able to use different math tools, identify and apply various strategies and problem-solve independently.
By the end of the school year, Vanessa came TOP 4 in her math 8 class! Her mother, Mrs. Eva K. couldn’t be happier as she finally found a math “tutor” (*actually, a Math Coach) who delivered REAL TRANSFORMATIVE math results!
She was relieved to know that her daughter can move on confidently with math, as this would further open doors to her daughter’s future.

MRS. EVA K., COQUITLAM, BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA
“My daughter, Vanessa attends Grade 8 in a Coquitlam middle school.
I was getting worried as her math grades were slipping remendously to nearly failing. I have hired several math tutors, but none of them were able to pull my daughter’s grades up. I found Pearlynne in a local ad.
In under 4 months, my daughter’s grades jumped from low C’s to high A’s. She even got 100% on her math tests, not once, but TWICE! The last time she got 100% on her math quiz was in Grade 3 and has never gotten 100% for math ever since.
By the end of the Grade 8 year, Vanessa came in top 4 in her Grade 8 math class. Her math teacher couldn’t believe how she was failing and how she topped her class.
I was so happy to find Pearlynne Leong. I wished I found her earlier. She is amazing. I highly recommend her.”
Rowena - I Can Enter into University Now
Grade 10, North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
Challenge
Before moving back to the city with her father, Rowena had spent most of her childhood growing up in different rural communities and moving to six different schools.
These changes had severely disrupted her continuity with learning and education, particularly when it comes to her math concepts and foundation.
When she first came to me at Grade 10, she was getting a C minus 51%. Her math proficiency was at a Grade 5-6 level. Rowena was severely challenged with basic operations like multiplication, division, BEDMAS, fractions, etc.
Rescue & Repair Solution
I began to tackle her mathematical challenges by systematically assigning her practices that were concepts-specific related.
Using my proprietary Simplicity Counts™ Math Program, I coached and oversaw her math techniques, skills and performance.
Along with consistent efforts, Rowena was grasping math concepts along that increased her math confidence and improved her math skills dramatically.
Once I had established the confidence in her, I integrated her into playing catch up with her school Math, and further coached her in problem-recognition skills and developing solution-driven strategies.
Life-Changing Math Results
Prior to coaching with me, Rowena started off at a C minus at 51%. After working with me, she was at A 86%.
After the completion of our final math coaching sessions, Rowena discovered she has a passion for Math. The last time I checked, she was receiving a B in Pre-Calculus 11, without receiving any further tutoring support.
Her father reported that Rowena wants to pursue Engineering in University now, and he couldn’t be more thrilled.

JACK D., NORTH VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA CANADA
”My daughter, Rowena, had already changed six different schools while she was living in rural communities with her mother. I believe those moves have severely affected Rowena’s math performance.
When she came home to live with me in Grade 10, she was severely struggling with math. Despite her best efforts, she was getting a low C at 51%. She was getting more depressed and I didn’t know how to help her.
I found Pearlynne Leong through a mutual friend. Every weekend, we would drive from North Vancouver to Coquitlam to see her. It was the best thing ever. After a few sessions, I could see Rowena lightening up. It was a huge relief for me.
Within 8 months, Rowena’s grades improved tremendously. Near the end of her Math 10 class, she was getting A’s on her tests and she told me she really enjoys learning math with Pearlynne. My daughter wants to pursue Engineering in University now and I couldn’t be more proud of her.
Thanks to Pearlynne and her efforts for making all these possible. The long drives were all worth it. I highly recommend her.”
Nicholas - I Got Maximum Marks!
Grade 8 International Baccalaureate (IB), Private School, British Columbia, Canada
Challenge
Nicholas, a Grade 8 International Baccalaureate (IB) student at a Private School, came to me 4 months just before the school year ended.
In that IB math class, he was receiving a C. His mother was noticing he was getting unusually anxious and was having trouble sleeping. His lack of sleep affected his focus in school during the day.
However, his true struggle with math wasn’t fully revealed until he did the dreaded Pythagorean Theorem test. It was his very first time he failed a math test and he was quite devastated.
At my evaluation, I noticed Nicholas’ would get incredibly nervous when he was asked to show his work. His pen in his palm would become sweaty and he often worked up a sweat.
His written work and calculation were all over the place. There was barely any structure or form. It was extremely challenging to follow his thought process.
He eluded that he often worked the problem up in his head that added to his stress and anxiety. Rightfully so. He can never be sure if he got the answer right or wrong.
Being able to Show Your Work is incredibly important in math. Without having this math skill, teachers are unable to adequately evaluate how students derived their answers. Hence, students like Nicholas, were losing a lot of unnecessary marks on their assignments, tests, and exams.
All these could be avoided if students knew how to structure and show their work adequately.
Rescue & Repair Solution
Contrary to many students “misbeliefs” about math, math is really NOT a guessing game reserved for the geniuses only.
In fact, Math requires a systematic and methodological approach to get the most marks.
After Nicholas was coached in my Simplicity CountsTM Math Program, he was able to systematically "Show his Work" in a way that conveyed his thought processes clearly and concisely.
With this newly acquired math skill, he was able to present his math solutions with accuracy and precision to any audience reviewing his work. This is a vital mathematical skill to have throughout high school, college and university.
Life-Changing Math Results
Nicholas no longer felt nervous when he was asked to show his work. He was able to confidently lay out his thought process systematically and got maximum marks on all his tests.
As a result of consecutively receiving over 94% on his tests with me, he ultimately received a B average, as he was receiving a C, six months before coaching with me.
The problem-solving tools he acquired will last him through high school, college and university.

MRS. KIM, MAPLE RIDGE, BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA
“My son, Nicholas was in Grade 8 of the International Baccalaureate (IB) program at a private school in Maple Ridge.
I could see my son struggling with math as he was getting stressed out from the heavy IB workload and also his math class at the private school was taught at quite a fast pace.
My son wasn’t able to catch up with his math class and was getting a low C. I could tell he needed some math help and was looking for a math tutor. I was lucky to find Ms. Leong through word of mouth from a friend. She recommended Ms. Leong to me.
Within 4 months, my son’s grades rose from a C to an A. He was looking more relaxed when he tackled math problems. His anxiety level went down a lot. That was very important to me because I know having high anxiety can tremendously affect his performance level.
Anyone who wants to see real math results for your child, should go see her. She fixes everything. I highly recommend Ms. Leong.”
Cherise - No More Fear of Math
Grade 5, Port Moody, British Columbia, Canada
Challenge
Cherise was in Grade 5 when she first came and coached with me. She was terrified of math.
At her grade level, she couldn’t add, subtract or even multiply. When a simple math question was placed in front of her, she would freeze with her eyes wide open, like a deer staring in headlights.
As I learned more about her situation, I realized she has been conjuring negative mental images of herself based on the feedback loop she was stuck in. She has been receiving poor grades and less than encouraging remarks from her report cards, particularly for math.
For a long time, she assumed that math was for “smart” people only and that she wasn’t one of them. Unfortunately, based on my extensive experience dealing with children, she wasn’t the only one who believes that. In fact, many of them do, but this is so far from the truth.
Math, like riding a bike or any kind of sports, is a skill. With proper coaching in the right direction, consistent efforts and strong perseverance, anyone can be a math superstar!
In Cherise’s case, this misconception she had about herself had caused a severe mental block in her that hindered her from succeeding or even trying with math.
Rescue & Repair Solution
Math is a very important skill in life. It can feel very frustrating not being able to add, subtract, multiply or even divide, and at times even downright embarrassing. This can often lead to feelings of inadequacy, low self-esteem and lack of confidence that can permeate many areas of life.
Without adequately acquiring strong fundamental math skills, children can severely limit their possibilities. This is most evident when completing high school requirements, applying into colleges, university or simply applying budgeting or financial management skills for work or in their personal lives.
Self-esteem and confidence is everything in life.
As a certified life coach, one of my priorities with Cherise was to help her overcome severely dampened self-esteem and misguided self-beliefs.
But first, we had to remove her resistance with math and trepidation.
It was critical that Cherise needed to personally experience the importance of being able to count and do arithmetic.
To help put her guard down, I had to begin our first few sessions with playing games with her that involved money. My objective was to get her interested with numbers in a fun, stress-free environment, so we can begin a dialogue in it.
When Cherise saw how important it was to be able to count, add and subtract was, she began to take a renewed interest in Math.
Gradually as we built a rapport with numbers, with increased trust over time, we were able to begin acquiring various math skills from the Simplicity Counts™ Math Program.
As she gained more confidence from experiencing positive reinforcement and success with the acquired math tools, she also began to work more independently away from me, which further fueled her sense of self-worth, self-beliefs and inner confidence.
Life-Changing Math Results
After my math coaching, Cherise re-established a positive relationship with math and numbers.
As she practiced more with the math tools I had provided her, she gained greater confidence in herself that re-shaped her beliefs about herself.
Soon, her math grades started to improve tremendously. Her parents reported that her teachers also saw a vast improvement in her overall approach to learning, particularly her demeanour. She was less angry, calm and more willing to learn from others.
Overall, Cherise became a more positive, radiant and confident individual who enjoyed learning Math.
With a new mindset and inner confidence, she shifted her mindset and self-belief from “I can’t do it”, to “I can”! This new found experience and renewed attitude will set her up for a lifetime of success.
Cherise has many exciting opportunities awaiting for her.

MRS. CHRISTENSEN, PORT MOODY, BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA
“My daughter Cherise was in Grade 5 when I found Pearlynne through an ad.
Cherise was not doing well in math. Her teachers had recommended to find Cherise a math tutor. I know my daughter has been struggling with math for a while, but I haven’t gotten around to it, until then.
According to her teacher, Cherise would freeze up whenever she was in math class. I have tried helping her, but I am not good with math either. I sent Cherise to Pearlynne and within a few months of working with her, I noticed Cherise’s outlook towards learning started changing. Her face would light up whenever she does math, like Pearlynne’s math. She even did her school math homework on her own without me prompting or helping her. That really surprised me.
Cherise’s math grades started improving tremendously. Her teachers even remarked seeing a vast difference and improvement in Cherise’s overall behaviour and approach to learning. Her other grades, besides math, started improving too.
Whatever Pearlynne did with Cherise, completely exceeded my expectations. Besides improving her math grades, I could see Cherise bouncing back to her good old self which I haven’t seen in more than 2 years.
She has more confidence in the things she does and has taken an interest in learning new things around her. It was like she became a different, more positive person.
Thank you, Pearlynne for bringing my child back to me. I couldn’t have done this without you.”
